The Ultimate Matcha Recipe (+ Why It’s a Health Game-Changer)
If you’re looking for a creamy, energizing drink that’s as delicious as it is healthy, look no further than a Japanese matcha! Not only does matcha provide a rich, earthy flavor, but it also packs some serious health benefits. Let’s dive into why this vibrant green drink deserves a spot in your daily routine—and how to make it like a pro.
Why Matcha is a Nutritional Powerhouse
1. L-Theanine: The Calm Focus You Need
Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation without drowsiness. It works alongside the natural caffeine in matcha to provide a sustained, focused energy boost—no jitters or afternoon crash here! It’s the perfect morning drink when you need to be productive!
2. Antioxidants Galore
Matcha is loaded with antioxidants, particularly catechins, which help combat oxidative stress and reduce inflammation making it amazing for glowing skin and heart health. In fact, matcha contains significantly more antioxidants than regular green tea, making it a potent tool for overall health and longevity.
3. A Vitamin C Boost
Surprisingly, matcha is also a source of vitamin C, which supports your immune system and skin health. Combined with its other health benefits, it’s like a green powerhouse in your cup!
AUTHENTIC MATCHA vs. low-quality matcha
From antioxidants to energizing properties, matcha has become a superfood phenomenon! But are you drinking high-quality, nutrient-rich Japanese matcha or a low-quality wannabe? I highly recommend investing in high-quality matcha as it can make all the difference from flavour to the amount of nutrients in your cup! Look for a vibrant green powder—it’s a sign of freshness and premium quality (watch my video below for more info on this!).
How to Make the Perfect Matcha
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon or 2g of authentic matcha powder (look for ceremonial grade, spring harvest for the best flavor and quality)
90ml or 1/2 cup of hot water (200F)
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup for sweetness
To Make:
Sift the Matcha: Use a fine mesh strainer to sift your matcha powder into a bowl to prevent clumps.
Whisk the Matcha: Add the hot water to the matcha powder. Using a bamboo whisk, whisk in a “W” or “M” motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy. Enjoy the health-packed green gold as is!
Optional step: add steamed milk over the whisked matcha along with some collagen powder for a skin-loving, gut health boost and/or natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup if you prefer a touch of sweetness. Sip slowly and savour the creamy, earthy goodness!
A Few Tips:
Don’t Overheat the Water: boiling water can scorch the matcha, leading to a bitter taste. Stick to around 200°F.
Option to add Collagen Powder: this is completely optional but I’ll often also add collagen powder to my matcha for some extra protein (use code HAPPYHEALTHCC25)
